ABOUT
This is the third Fungi Chingu franchise opened in Dalat in 2016. Gradually, the design language of the store chain was formed. It is possible that a building can generate an immediate and pervasive sense of welcome, wamrth, serenity - and even fun - in the context of a quiet Dalat.
CONCEPT
In this renovation, the structure and facade of the old building are more limited. The local government does not want too much interference in the building for safety reasons, but the owner cannot effectively run their business if everything is untouched. Therefore, the entire space inside the restaurant will have to be divided into small spaces according to the current structure. This issue leads to the interior lighting and decoration must be well executed so that the columns are not too obvious.
DESIGN
The existing height of 1st floor was only 2.3 metres, that was not the adequate height for mechanical and engineering function of this restaurant. So we need to rise the 1st floor to 3.6 metres and adjusted the roof to put the kitchen on the 2nd floor. Keeping the original idea of “pine boxes” in decoration, we give them a new expression ath this time. The space was a simple big rectangle and we emphasized the shape of the space by building out the walls with “pine box shelves”. Exposed ceiling was a maze of ducts and pipes, and subtle downlights drew the eye away from ceiling to the areas where tables were displayed.
This photo was taken in the summer but dust on the window makes it looks like winter is coming.

Looking back at the pictures of the old house before the renovation, it's a pity that we can not keep the existing components since they are worn out.
